Picking Grapes in the UK: Where, How and When!

While there are no PYO Orchards growing grapes to pick there area vineyards in that have a grape picking experience each October. Many are in Sussex, which is one of the larger grape-growing areas of the UK.

Below is a list of the vineyards we've found that typically (there are exceptions from year to year based on harvest conditions) that offer this grape harvest experience.

  • Albourne Estate -
  • Artelium Estate - volunteer hand-harvesting grapes . Free to attend but registration is required
    near Ditchling Other locations include Streat, East Sussex and the West Sussex site in Madehurst.
  • Bluebell Vineyard -
  • Oastbrook Estate - volunteer hand-harvesting grapes, Free to attend but registration is required
    In the past, volunteers were given lunch in the winery.
  • Oxney Estate -
  • Rathfinny Estate -
    Alfriston, East Sussex. Hires people for 3 to 4 weeks of paid work. They also have a harvest experience for a fee. 
  • Roebuck Estates - volunteer hand-harvesting grapes, Free to attend but registration is required

  • Ridgeview Estate -

    Their "Harvest Experience" included in the coffee, cakes, a lesson about how to harvest grapes then picking with the team, finishing up with lunch wine.
  • Tillingham -
    In the past, volunteers were given breakfast in the barn, and lunch.
